Margaretha "Penny Lane" Rahmaney
Name:Margaretha Rahmaney
Age: 26
Allegiance: Former Blue Suns | Cerberus/Alliance Double Agent
Occupation: Hacker | Spy
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Background: Born on Omega Margaretha (also known as Margreet) quickly learned to look out for number one – herself. Abandoned by her mother at the age of six, she fended for herself on the streets until she was recruited by Tarak of the Blue Suns at the age of fifteen. By this point Margreet was a very skilled hacker and thief, and had acquired a small fortune by stealing from Afterlife patrons. At one point she was caught by Aria T’Loak, who threatened her with her goons. Margreet managed to strike a bargain; her freedom for information on certain individuals arriving on Omega.
The years before the Blue Suns were full of horrors, and many death defying escapes. At one point she was captured by Batarians and nearly sold into slavery. She had many encounters (in particular with the Vorcha) where she barely escaped with her own life. She did have some friends growing up, such as local merchants who took pity on her, and some other (mostly human) children – she became naturally distrustful of other people.
As a part of the Blue Suns, Margreet was taught how to use various weapons, her favourite being the Razor Pistol. She was a part of many successful Blue Suns operations on Omega, and eventually took part of one on Earth, where she heard the song which would eventually become her pseudonym. Despite being an active member of the Suns Margreet felt no true loyalty to them, or any of its members. Her only motivation was money, having seen from her childhood on Omega that money brought power. It was her goal at some point to become a leader within the Suns and be able to head and plan her own operations.
It was only a few years after joining the Suns that she came to the attention of Cerberus. Cerberus contracted the uses of the Suns faction that Margreet was a part of in order to evaluate her skills. Margreet and her fellow Suns were ambushed on the mission and most of them were killed. A group of Cerberus operatives then cornered her and the remaining crew (two Batarians and a human), they offered Margreet a job with them, and a much larger pay check. They also claimed to have information regarding her mother and why she left Margreet alone on Omega. With very little hesitation Margreet joined them, and the remaining Suns were killed.
At first her work with Cerberus was tedious. It was mostly organizing various files and helping to keep their security systems in order. She soon became comfortable working for Cerberus, and for the first time began to let her guard down. She soon fell in love for the first time with a fellow agent, Victor Vance. Victor seemingly reciprocated these feelings and the two began a relationship.
It was during this time Margreet uncovered information proving that Cerberus had indeed participated in terrorist operations. She showed her findings to Victor, who told her not to worry about it. After a few months she was and Victor were sent on a mission to an abandoned Cerberus base (which had been attacked by pirates) to recover essential information. While on the base Victor attacked Margreet telling her that she was now a liability Cerberus could not afford to have. Realizing that Victor had never truly loved her Margreet managed to reroute the electrical systems and have him electrocuted. She returned to Cerberus with the information, and claimed that Victor had been killed by the old security system which was still active. It was at this point she was called to meet the Illusive Man for the first time.
During their meeting he told her he knew of her hacking into their restricted files. He told her that those “terrorist” acts were in the end for the greater good, and that in the big picture a few lives were nothing compared to the millions. Margreet claimed to understand, but she was planning on stealing the information and handing it to the highest bidder.
As if sensing what she planned to do the Illusive Man told her that the information she had was useless, and showed her that even if exposed the Council on the Citadel would not act, and it was unlikely the Alliance would too. If humans organizations cannot get along, he pointed out, why would the Council consider having a human join them? He then suggested that she work as a double agent for them within the Alliance. When also mentioned the intel on her mother, saying she would receive it in turn for information on the Alliance.
Using the pseudonym Penny Lane she offered her services as a hacker to the Alliance. She created a back-story for herself that she grew up on a colony, where both her parents were killed when a generator exploded. Cerberus provided her with all the necessary paperwork. Undercover she also worked with C-Sec, where her hacking skills were considered invaluable. It was during this time that Commander Shepard went down the Normandy. When rumours that Shepard was alive began to spread, Margreet began to wonder if Cerberus was somehow involved.
While naturally suspicious of most people and still broken hearted by Victoir, try as she might she began to form bonds with those she met while working with the Alliance and C-Sec.
She is currently debating whether or not to share Cerberus intel with the Alliance. She is also yet to get any information on her mother.
Personality: Margreet is a young woman full of emotional (and physical scars). Her mother’s abandonment of her has often left her feeling inadequate, and wondering whether or not there was something wrong with her that her mother could not love her. In addition with her childhood experiences on Omega she is naturally distrustful of everyone, and will rarely let her true feelings show. While not exactly selfish Margreet looks out for herself above everyone else, and is always looking for a way to advance her own position. As a child she did care for some of the friends she made on Omega, and often went out of her way to help them. However as she became older she became more and more jaded and delusioned with the world around her.
For most of her life Margreet saw everything in black and white. That was until she began to work for Cerberus. Now she feels at a loss over what to feel and namely what to do.
There is a part of Margreet that desperately wants to be like and loved. However she is afraid of forming relationships, because she is afraid of being rejected and hurt. She compensates for this for being outwardly cold and indifferent towards most people.
...MORE WILL BE ADDED HERE SOON.
*NOTE: Margreet is still heavily a WIP so some of this may be changed.
